In early July, Palaeontologist arrive for their yearly dig, enjoy talks on the deck each night after dinner to find out all the interesting things they find.
One site – Trevor’s Pit – is producing an amazing diversity of animals and unusually delicate specimens, including a tiny bird skull, other fragile bird elements, lizards, insects, representatives of all most marsupial groups. But not many larger elements.
It is strange that such an abundance of diverse animals are being recovered from one site, but little in the way of larger animals or articulated specimens.
Mike has suggested that it may be an owl roost.
This site will be the subject of an Honours project next year to try to determine what is going on.
